La Crescent Area Healthy Community Partnership
About Us
The La Crescent Area Healthy Community Partnership (HCP), organized in the fall of 2002, is a 501c3 organization made up of citizens of La Crescent, Minnesota who are interested in the physical, mental and spiritual health of people of all ages. We also focus on the economic, business, and environmental health of our area. Our vision is to be the healthiest community anywhere where people feel useful, valued and have purpose.
We currently have two major grant funded programs; Neighbors in Action and Active Living LaCrescent. Neighbors in Action, funded in part through the state of Minnesota as well as through local contributions, provides volunteer services to older and disabled adults so they can remain in their own homes for as long as is safe and healthy. Active Living LaCrescent, funded through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, is in the 2nd year of a 5 year plan to increase physical activity and promote active lifestyle opportunities for La Crescent area residents. This program engages key community leaders across multiple disciplines to implement a collaborative and coordinated series of community initiatives which promote or facilitate active living.
Other projects include: a community garden, an annual spring yard cleanup for senior citizens, and planning for a new community center. We're always looking for passionate individuals with new and innovative projects help us further our mission.
Our Mission
The La Crescent Area Healthy Community Partnership exists to improve the health and wellness of the community. We do this by supporting projects, providing opportunities and mobilizing resources throughout the LaCrescent area that will connect people within the community and empower them to achieve health and wellness in all aspects of their lives.
Why We Need a New Website
HCP is an umbrella organization for several program which are much more recognized than HCP itself. We've struggled with marketing and promoting our organization. We want to change this and we know a website will help. A website will help us communicate our activities to not only our members but also to the general public. There are many exciting projects, such as:
- A local bike shop run in collaboration with the local school district giving at risk students an opportunity to learn real life skills and business knowledge.
- Walk and Bike to school days
- City beautification activities
- Hiking trails and green ways
- The walkability and bikeability of LaCrescent
-Social, educational and recreational opportunities for senior citizens
-Planning, planting and harvesting our local community garden
-Support services for seniors including transportation, indoor and outdoor chores, housekeeping, and companionship
- Collaboration with other local organizations to enhance our efforts and services.
All of these programs and projects need an interactive way to communicate their needs, events, and ways for the public to become more involved. We also hope the website will help us with our sustainability and fundraising efforts.
How Our New Site Will Help Make the World Greener
Many of the projects that we are involved with promote a greener lifestyle. By having the website as a tool to communicate our work it will allow us to grow these projects and have a greater impact on our community. In addition, we will be able to reduce the output of paper by listing minutes, announcements, calendars, and pertinent information on our website rather that making and distributing paper copies to our members and the public. We'll also be able save the time and energy that it takes to accomplish this.
It's commom sense to practice what we preach with an effective website.
