About Us

The La Crescent Area Healthy Community Partnership (HCP), organized in the fall of 2002, is a 501c3 organization made up of citizens of La Crescent, Minnesota who are interested in the physical, mental and spiritual health of people of all ages. We also focus on the economic, business, and environmental health of our area. Our vision is to be the healthiest community anywhere where people feel useful, valued and have purpose.
We currently have two major grant funded programs; Neighbors in Action and Active Living LaCrescent. Neighbors in Action, funded in part through the state of Minnesota as well as through local contributions, provides volunteer services to older and disabled adults so they can remain in their own homes for as long as is safe and healthy. Active Living LaCrescent, funded through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, is in the 2nd year of a 5 year plan to increase physical activity and promote active lifestyle opportunities for La Crescent area residents. This program engages key community leaders across multiple disciplines to implement a collaborative and coordinated series of community initiatives which promote or facilitate active living.
Other projects include: a community garden, an annual spring yard cleanup for senior citizens, and planning for a new community center. We're always looking for passionate individuals with new and innovative projects help us further our mission.

Our Mission

The La Crescent Area Healthy Community Partnership exists to improve the health and wellness of the community. We do this by supporting projects, providing opportunities and mobilizing resources throughout the LaCrescent area that will connect people within the community and empower them to achieve health and wellness in all aspects of their lives.

Why We Need a New Website

HCP is an umbrella organization for several program which are much more recognized than HCP itself. We've struggled with marketing and promoting our organization. We want to change this and we know a website will help. A website will help us communicate our activities to not only our members but also to the general public. There are many exciting projects, such as:
- A local bike shop run in collaboration with the local school district giving at risk students an opportunity to learn real life skills and business knowledge.
- Walk and Bike to school days
- City beautification activities
- Hiking trails and green ways
- The walkability and bikeability of LaCrescent
-Social, educational and recreational opportunities for senior citizens
-Planning, planting and harvesting our local community garden
-Support services for seniors including transportation, indoor and outdoor chores, housekeeping, and companionship
- Collaboration with other local organizations to enhance our efforts and services.
All of these programs and projects need an interactive way to communicate their needs, events, and ways for the public to become more involved. We also hope the website will help us with our sustainability and fundraising efforts.

How Our New Site Will Help Make the World Greener

Many of the projects that we are involved with promote a greener lifestyle. By having the website as a tool to communicate our work it will allow us to grow these projects and have a greater impact on our community. In addition, we will be able to reduce the output of paper by listing minutes, announcements, calendars, and pertinent information on our website rather that making and distributing paper copies to our members and the public. We'll also be able save the time and energy that it takes to accomplish this.
It's commom sense to practice what we preach with an effective website.

HCP has been instrumental in starting so many worthwhile programs in La Crescent. I coordinate the Neighbors in Action program and we would not exist without HCP. NIA supports over 150 seniors through over 200 volunteers every year. We need this website to help us better communicate all the good work HCP does for La Crescent.

Sandy Graves, NIA Program Coordinator

The Healthy Community Partnership is an innovative group of individuals who are interested in making La Crescent a better place to live. City officials, the business community and other community organizations agreed that HCP has already made a postive impact on our community.

Eileen Krenz, Executive Secretary La Crescent Chamber of Commerce

I became part of Healthy Community Partnership three years ago when I was looking for a way to connect to my community and work with people who were doing meaningful things for others. La Crescent Area HCP is just that. I am so grateful to have been part of an organization with such passion for wanting to make the world--especially our small little world in La Crescent--an amazing place to be for each individual person. We have never lacked for ideas, but we have always had to work to support our ideas financially. Board members volunteer their time and energy because we believe in HCP. But we're also busy with our own lives and jobs. A website has been a necessary goal for us for a long time, but has never come to fruition due to a lack of web-building experience, time, and money. An effective, powerful website would be another way for the La Crescent Area Healthy Community Partnership to reach out to our community and share our dreams as well as our accomplishments. We are doing some pretty amazing things, yet so few people know who we are.

Audrey Alfson, HCP Secretary/Treasurer

HCP has been a catalyst to build a sense of community in LaCrescent. They are the hub from which many meaningful programs originate. Without HCP these great ideas would not gain momentum. What HCP is lacking is an effective website to serve as a vehicle which will showcase all of the great work going on.

LaVonne Beach, Director, LaCrescent Public Library

HCP has not only been instrumental in the formation of several local initiatives, but is a stellar example of community engagement and citizen involvement. This the the organization that anyone with an idea can approach for feedback and support. The board members are among the warmest, most sincere individuals that I know, who genuinely care about the community in which they work and live, as they strive to make LaCrescent "the healthiest place to live."

Val Krage, LaCrescent-Hokah Community Education

The Healthy Community Partnership has changed La Crescent in many wonderful ways. The HCP leaders have done a great job in promoting their programs thus far, but a website would help their efforts go much further. The momentum is gaining for healthy lifestyles in La Crescent. Let’s give the HCP the tools to reach the entire community and achieve extraordinary results.
