About Us

We provide a variety of services and programs to families and children in our service area. Some of these services include; adult education, early childhood screening, preschool programs, mentoring programs, home visiting, child teen check up program, many after school programs including PM Power Learners, Game On, Mentoring Matters, etc. We also have a food shelf in Longville which is supported through our Thrift store called Tossed N Found. We recently opened another Thrift store in Remer to help support these programs.
We offer these services to all, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, language or income.

Our Mission

Vision: As a result of our work, we are breaking the cycle of generational poverty, one family at a time.
Mission: To provide education, mentoring, and support services that build strong individuals and families in the Northland Community School District.
Core Values:
1. Education is an important key to building self-sufficient individuals and strong families.
2. Every person has value. We operate out of consideration for each individual’s dignity.
3. Strong families build strong communities.
4. Healthy families and community systems are essential to supporting sustainable change in individuals.
5. We strive for communities in which people are interdependent.
6. We collaborate with other organizations that support our mission.

Why We Need a New Website

A new website will provide the community with a means to access the many programs we offer them. It will provide vital information for the many members of our community that so need our assistance. It would also benefit our need for funding to continue to provide these programs.

How Our New Site Will Help Make the World Greener

Many of the applications necessary for individuals to participate in these programs could be completed on-line therefore avoiding unnecessary use of paper, ink, mailing, etc. Donations necessary to continue providing these programs could be made on-line rather than by other means also.

The Northland Area Farmily Service Center works very hard and diligently to provide services to all community members who need them. They offer many wonderful after school programs to children that would otherwise have little to no supervision during after school hours and are very adament in their goal to break the cycle of generational poverty, even if it is one family at a time. The food shelf helps so many families and the staff is made up of so many caring individuals who donate a lot of their personal time beyond their assigned duties.

Cheryl Adams, I have received assistance from the Northland Family Center, use of their computer, phone, fax, etc. I am now employed part time with them as well.

This is a letter to Michelle our director.
Michelle,
I wanted to Thank You and your staff for all the support you have shown me the past year. I am a success story. I started with the parenting classes because I wanted to be a better mother. The classes allowed me I learn different ways to discipline my daughter and how other parents dealt with their children. Michelle you are a God's angel. You taught me how to deal with situations and always stood behind me in difficult times. Now I have found a job and will be leaving Longville. I have accomplished many things the past two years. Without the family centers support from staff and programs I would have never been able to financially afford the after school activities for my daughter. You never treated me differently then any other member of the community. So thanks again. This past Xmas I was able to give Katie a Christmas that I would have never been able to do without the family center. I also received presents that Katie was so happy for. I will receive my BSN in nursing in July.

I am a Mentor in The Family Centers Mentoring Program. I am thankful for the relationship the Center has provided with this wonderful 9 year old girl.
The Center Manages the Program and Provides all the Leadership to make this program successful. We meet weekly as a Team and the Relationships that have begun are priceless to all. In the program we help with homework, do crafts, outdoor activitiets, reading and most of all,
we have a really good time. Without the enthusiastic leadership this program would not be at this level of success. Thank you Lisa and Shannon for
your time and support. Your talents have benefited many individuals and families in our area.

The Northland Area Family Service Center is a great asset to our community. A person can volunteer in many areas of this centers organization! People come into the center for all kinds of help and the staff there is very friendly and welcoming. Even if you just need to use a computer, send or receive a fax or just being able to make some copies everyone is very friendly! I think that help with their website would be a great benefit to this organization, as not everyone even in our small town sizes but large in our land sizes know how much of an asset this organization is to our communities!

community member/volunteer

The Northland Area Family Center, Longville, Minnesota is an absolutely wonderful organization. From child mentoring to the Food Shelf programs, the entire organization is a thoughtful, creative and nurturing group of individuals. Over the past 50 years, I have done a great deal of volunteer work using both time and talents. This organization is at the very top of my list. I'm very lucky to play a part in it.

Donor/volunteer

The Northland Area Family Service Center is a vital asset to our community in many ways. There are resources available for community members aged birth to death, and supplied by a knowledgable, caring and devoted staff that constantly and consistently go the extra mile for everyone. To have an easily accessible website would be an enormous help to all members of this community, however they are involved in one of these programs. Volunteers could check on the next mentoring event and what can be done to help, a person can check to see what time either of the two "recycled" clothing stores are open for donations or for shopping, find out the hours of the Food Shelf - all without having to take time away from someone who is - very cordially! - answering the phone. The NAFSC service area is huge - approximately 847 square miles - and for a community member to get the information needed about programs that will help them without having to wonder how to get to Longville, is invaluable. The cost saving in ink, paper and time will also be tremendous. Thank you all!!
