About Us

Hospitality House Youth Directions, Inc., founded in 1960 and incorporated in 1963, is committed to developing responsible urban youth, ages 5-18, in their physical and intellectual development, their social integration and their spiritual birth and growth in Jesus Christ.

Hospitality House Youth Directions is a Christian Ministry that has provided vital services to the North Minneapolis community for over four decades. Its core programs center on intellectual, physical, and spiritual development of families, children, and teens. Hospitality House has been around for almost 50 years and its mission remains the same - to bring Christ to inner-city youth.

Hospitality House invests in the future of the families and children coming through its doors. Programs and staff empower, inspire, nurture and affirm youth through social, educational and economic enrichment. Hospitality House continues the legacy of founder Woody Larson and has built on his foundation of serving youth by teaching them the importance of embracing and following Christ.

Our programs provide a framework to address our long range objectives of training youth and encouraging their development as responsible, contributing members of their families, schools, churches, and communities.

Our Mission

Hospitality House Youth Directions exists to provide a Christian outreach, focused on the spiritual, intellectual, and physical development of urban youth.

Hospitality House Strategy is to:
- Empower youth through educational and economic enrichment
- Inspire youth toward leadership development by developing their capacity for personal vision, self-confidence and solid personal values
- Nurture youth to become global in perspective and capabilities
- Affirm and integrate cultural perspectives into all programs
- Collaborate and coordinate with other community support services

Why We Need a New Website

Hospitality House Youth Directions (HHYD) is a nonprofit based in the heart of North Minneapolis. Our organization is dependent on volunteers and donations for its information technology requirements.

A redesigned website is a critical need for the Hospitality House Youth Directions to move into today's information world. As a tool for public awareness, a new design will provide for community outreach to ensure all urban youth are allowed to grow in spiritual, intellectual, and physical development. Parents and community leaders will be able to collaborate together, allowing them to follow the local youth development through one tool. Volunteers, donators, and educators will be able to coordinate their educational nurturing efforts in one location convenient for all. The urban youth will become better global citizens through their interactions with community leaders, educations, and volunteers inspiring them to become tomorrow's community leaders.

How Our New Site Will Help Make the World Greener

One of the most important obstacles facing Hospitality House is focusing today's youth towards intellectual and educational development in order to foster the leaders of tomorrow. Information technology has become a helpful tool towards this goal but one our organization can't sustain without an updated site. A redesigned site will allow students to collaborate among their classmates, develop communication skills with community leaders, and focus their efforts on improving educational goals. Volunteers will have a hand in this growth by engaging in community interactions on the site. Donors and community leaders will gain the importance of our youths' spiritual, intellectual, and physical enhancement, ensuring there will be a successful tomorrow's generation.

HHYD provides a great service to the local community through their afterschool programs, midnight basketball, Christmas with Dignity, and athletic programs. Without these services, most students wouldn't have a place to go after school to develop their educational needs. A new web site is really needed. The outdated web site gives little more than basic information. A new site will give a one-stop portal to connect the local community with students and community leaders. Please help them!

Volunteer

HHYD is making a difference in the lives of youth and families in North Mpls through daily programs in education, athletics, and creative arts. In the midst of high poverty (80% of our families have a household income less than $40,000/year), high school drop out rates, and single parent/foster parent families (78%), HHYD provides a place for hope, inspiration, and achievement. Financially restricted, we and our families rely on the provision of a diverse base of grants, individual donations, partnering organizations and many dedicated volunteers in all our programs. I am continually humbled by the ongoing sacrifices our teachers, coaches, staff and volunteers give on behalf of each of the students with huge needs ....and dreams.

Communication is so important to tell our partnering community who we are and what is happening in our programs and the lives of our youth and families. An upgraded website would give us an amazingly practical tool to tell our stories, connect those seeking to the current information they need, and add ways of more effectively doing administrative tasks.

Thank you for considering Hospitality House Youth Directions.

...a volunteer who became staff

I believe deeply in the HHYD mission. I've personally seen the impact HHYD has on student's lifes. We need to empower today's youth with knowledge in the information age. Being based in North Minneapolis, youth are limited in their ability for after school programs. Hospitality House provides a great place to nurturing a youth mind, body, & soul. If you look at the current site, it is well outdated in today's information age. HHYD has limited funds to go out & build a interactive web site to be able to connect students, staff, volunteers, and the community. Please consider HHYD for a web site redesign, today's youth are in need of another empowerment tool.
